State people were the republicans, they were afraid that because of the tariff the federal government will have more power and they will have to pay more taxes. Republicans wanted to keep most of the power at the state or local level while the federalists wanted a strong federal government to hold the country together and deal with its problems. There was a misunderstanding between their rights witch lead to a fight/debate.
