D is an example of what not to do because he would hurt himself if he lifted a heavy load using his back. :)

Since Ted needs to lift a heavy load, he needs to be careful not to injure himself. One thing that Ted should not do while lifting is to lift with his back (D). If you lift with your back, you can cause injury. Instead, you should lift with your knees. All of the other options would help Ted lift the load properly and safely.
