You have to compute the prices of the two alternatives after deducting discount based on the different percentage given.

First alternative: $19.99 – ($19.99 x 20%) = $15.99

Second alternative: $17 – ($17 x 10%) = $15.30

Therefore, the alternative where there will be a 10% off on the original price of $17 for a book is cheaper.
