The most obvious of comparisons that can be drawn between the two men is the fact that both were kings of Israel. But more importantly, both kings sinned and failed God. Saul strayed from God's word (given to him through the prophet Samuel) and eventually lost his throne because of his issues with David. Solomon too strayed. His sins eventually lost his son the throne but both, because of disobedience to God, were punished.
