Solve for x over the real numbers:
log(9, x - 3) + log(9, x - 3) = 1
log(9, x - 3) + log(9, x - 3) = (2 log(x - 3))/(log(9)):
(2 log(x - 3))/(log(9)) = 1
Divide both sides by 2/(log(9)):
log(x - 3) = (log(9))/2
(log(9))/2 = log(sqrt(9)) = log(3):
log(x - 3) = log(3)
Cancel logarithms by taking exp of both sides:
x - 3 = 3
Add 3 to both sides:
Answer:  x = 6
