The difference of the square of y and twelve is the same as the product of five and x. How do I translate this into an equation?

The square of 'y' is y² .
The difference of that and 12 is  (y² - 12).

The product of 5 and 'x' is  5x .

If those two quantities are the same,
then you can write

                           y² - 12  =  5x .
