An African known as Estevan and enslaved by the Spanish became an important trailblazer for Spanish explorers.
Estevanico, better known as Estevan, was the slave of Andres Dorantes de Carannza. Being a slave, Estevan accompanied Andres to his Narvaez Expedition to Tampa Bay, Florida in 1528.
Because of his enslavement with Andres, he also became one of the early explorers of the Southwestern parts of the United states, thus, making him a trailblazer for Spanish explorers.
