The answer is x=2.

-7(x+1)-6=-41x+55. given
-7x-7-6=-41+55. combine like terms get the number and variable out of the parentheses by pretending the parentheses is a multiplication symbol.
-7x-13=-41x+55.
+13. +13
Add 13 on each side to get rid of the 13 on the left.
-7x=-41x+68 Add 41 to have one x variable.
