     y² - y = 2
y² - y - 2 = 2 - 2
y² - y - 2 = 0
y = -(-1) +/- √((-1)² - 4(1)(-2))
                       2(1)
y = 1 +/- √(1 + 8)
                2
y = 1 +/- √(9)
            2
y = 1 +/- 3
           2
y = 1 + 3  or  y = 1 - 3
         2                  2
y = 4             y = -2
      2                   2
y = 2             y = -1
