In Minamata,Japan, people contracted mercury poisoning by eating contaminated fish.
A lot of methylmercury was found in wastewater, which somehow got into the Minamata Bay, as well as Shiranui Sea, thus contaminating shellfish and fish, which were later eaten by the locals, which led to them contracting mercury poisoning.
