The person is engaged in a divergent thinking. It is a way to look for as many as possible solution to a problem. The person with divergent thinking may come up with a unique and new solution to a problem. It is considered to be the major factor in creative thinking.
Contrast with convergent thinking where the person is solving the problem with one solution.
