Nina's truck holds more, because Brent's pick-up holds 1/5 a ton, and a ton is 2000 pounds, so 2000 x 1/5 is 400, and is less than Nina's truck.

thing measurement you have to know here is that 1 ton is equal to 2000 pounds.  with this information, you can change 1/5 ton into pounds using a simple conversion shown below
1/5 ton x 2000 pounds/1 ton = 400 pounds
400 is less than 500 so Nina's truck can carry more weight
