Since length exceeds the width by 25 inches, length will be
L = W + 25
Now the perimeter, P, is given by
P = 2(L + W)
Substituting L = W + 25 in the above equation,
P = 2(W + 25 + W)
P = 2(2W + 25)

But P = 86 inches
P = 4W + 50 = 86
4W = 86 - 50 = 36
W = 36/4 = 9
