I bought 6.7 kg of apples and a water melon that weights 3.1 kg how much fruit did I buy.

Answer:

Our goal is to find the total weight which we can do by just adding up our weights.  We have 6.7 kg of apples and we have 3.1 kg of melon so we just add those up together and we get 9.8 kg.
