The treaty of Versailles effectively "nuked" the already depressed economy of Germany. Not only did the treaty indenture Germany to 70+ years of reparations, but, it ended all ways for Germany to make money. It eliminated the armed forces of Germany which essentially makes Germany a target for foreign interference. And, in accepting all responsibility for the war, no other nations would be held accountable, and Germany's image was ruined in the eyes of the international community.
