Until 1996, when an amendment to the Education Act raised the school leaving age to 16, most Bahamian children stayed in school until they completed the 12th grade, generally at the age of 17 or 18.
The Bahamas was able to announce to the United Nations that we had accomplished the vast majority of the millennium goals for education, even while these were still being formulated in international circles, with great pleasure.
