The lateral area of a cone can be described as follows:

  • Lateral area = πrl

where

r = radius

l = slant height

Therefore,

r = 20 / 2 = 10 cm

l = ?

lateral area = 320π cm²

320π = π × 10 × l

320π = 10πl

divide both sides by 10π

l = 320π / 10π

l = 32 cm
