plate tectonics within the earth are constantly shifting, and every once in a while the plates collide with one another, causing earthquakes.

this is geology not chem! plate tectonics are giant masses of land that are constantly shifting. every plate meets with other adjacent plate tectonics. where they meet, a variety of things can happen, sometimes resulting in earthquakes depending on how the plates interact
