If an equation is in standard form, which is Ax+By=C, you would have to convert the equation into slope-intercept form, which is y=mx+b.  This way you can locate the y-ntercept(b) immediately, and use rise over run to graph the slope and overall line.  An example of this would be converting 2x+y=5 into y= -2x+5.  5 would be your y-intercept, and -2 would be the slope.
