O Tightly packed particles in solids slow down the light waves; however, sound waves make particles bounce into each other, so they travel faster in solids.

Explanation:

In the data the student collected,  it showed that when the atmosphere is thicker, it slows down the light. With sound however, the sound travels better in thicker stmosphere or solid, than thin air, or steam.
