Biodiversity is regulated primarily by weather in addition to many other factors. Weather changes can cause droughts or flooding. Weather often pushes main species to migrate and therefore cause new biodiversity, indirectly the migration of one species into a new region could cause that new species to consume the already thriving species already in existence which then could reduce the value of species diversity in that region and throw off the pre-existing ecosystem.
