Diamond:

  1. It is crystalline in nature
  2. Each  Each C is  [tex]sp^{3}[/tex] hybridized and forms 4 covalent binds with neighboring  C atoms
  3. The geometry is tetrahedral
  4. C-C bond length is 154 pm
  5. It has rigid covalent boning which is difficult to break.
  6. It acts as an electric insulator

Graphite:

  1. It has layered structure
  2. Each C atom is sp2  hybridized and forms 3 sigma  bonds with 3 other C atoms. Fourth electron forms pi bond.
  3. The geometry is planar
  4. C-C bond length is 141.5 pm
  5. It is soft. Its layers can be separated easily
  6. It is good conductor of electricity.
