5x + 1 <= 3x - 17

add 17 to both sides- that will cancel the one on the right side. And on left side it would add to 18

5x + 18 <= 3x

then subtract 5x from both sides- that will cancel the one on left side. And on the right side ur left with negative 2x

18 <= -2x

divide both sides by negative 2... since dividing by -2 u have to slip the inequality sign.

-9 => x
