By substitution. You substitute y = x + 4 into the second equation:

x + 4 = 2x^2 + 3x - 1

2x^2 + 2x - 5 = 0

x = [ -2 +/- sqrt (2^2 - 4*1*-5) ] / 2*2

= -1/2 +/1 sqrt 24/4

= 1.158 , - 2.158

When x =  1.158 , y = 1.158 + 4 = 5.158

When x = -2.158, y = -2.158 + 4 = 1.842.
