The answer is simple, they needed more money. For most of this century (1700s), Britain was at war with someone. Most notably, we have the Seven Years War (French and Indian War) that depleted many of England's resources.
because they had to pay for the soldiers in their army to fight against other nations so they decided to make taxes to get money from the colonists to get the money
