Why do you think that it is important for diplomats to understand the worldview of the other party?

Because instead of assuming that the other party is always wrong or ignorant, learning everyone else's perspectives will allow for a quicker consensus among each party and put the diplomats on track to better the people.  Having a gathering of ideas will be a more accurate representation of society as a whole, rather than just one sided perspectives.
