Some ecosystems are closed, isolated, or open. In isolated systems, neither energy nor matter can leave/enter the ecosystem. In closed ecosystems, only energy can move in or out of the ecosystem In open ecosystems, energy and matter both can freely enter or exit the ecosystem.
