so now x is 2- y so we can substitute it in

     -4y  =  2

       /-4     /-4

        y   = -1/2

so now remember  x = 2 - y

use our new y

x = 2 - (-1/2)

x = 2 + 1/2

x = 2 and 1/5 or 2.5
