The vacuole in a plant cell also maintains hydrostatic pressure to provide structural support. The plant can increase in size by enlarging the vacuole. The main function of a vacuole in a plant cell is to store nutrients and waste products. Most animal cells, excluding fat cells, do not contain vacuoles.
