Slope intercept form:

y = mx + b

"m" is the slope, "b" is the y-intercept (when x = 0)

You know that the slope = [tex]\frac{-5}{4}[/tex], so you can plug it in:

y = mx + b

[tex]y = \frac{-5}{4}x+b[/tex]

To find "b", you plug in the point (4, -7) into the equation.

[tex]y = \frac{-5}{4}x+b[/tex]

[tex]-7=\frac{-5}{4}(4)+ b[/tex]

-7 = -5 + b  Add 5 on both sides

-2 = b

Your equation is:

[tex]y = \frac{-5}{4}x - 2[/tex]
