First, you move all the numerators above the common denominator. So, x-5/x - 8/x = 9. Then calculate x-5-8/x = 9. Multiple both sides of x, and you will get x-13/x = 9. Then, you move the terms so it will be x-13=9x. Finally solve the equation. So, it is -8x=13. And the final answer is -1.625 or you can leave it as -13/8.
