Solve the equation using the distributive property and properties of equality. -5(a+3)=-55

a = 8

First you use the distributive property which is going to give you:

-5a - 15 = -55

Then solve:

-5a = -55 + 15

-5a = -40

a = -40 / -5

a = 8
