Socialists were opposed to the war as they considered it as a conflict where soldiers killed each other in the interests of the politicians. rhetoric of the socialists, that it was an "imperialist war," whereby advanced capitalist countries of Europe were fighting over boundaries, colonies, spheres of influence; at the expense of the soldiers
