A to B
Distance =48km , speed =36km/h
Time= D/S (distance divided by speed)
Time= 48/36= 12/9 of an hour

B to A
Distance=48km , speed=40km/h
Time=48/40= 6/5 of an hour

Total
6/5 + 12/9 = 38/15 = 2 & 8/15

Therefore, it took 2 & 8/15 of and hour.
